There are just a few words to describe Anna Palmerola, singer/songwriter, over the last year that I've been photographing her: Sleek, elegant, precise and strong. Now, I'm not attempting to compare her to a high-end sports car. Quite the contrary, those adjectives are my way of describing the way she sings. In this article I'll be explaining as to why Ms. Palmerola is this week's Artist Of The Week. Allow me to include a "shameless plug", Palmerola will be performing live at Bodega Taqueria and Tequila in Miami on July 6 at 10 pm EST.
On the outside, Palmerola is lovely and the camera loves her. But when she's behind a microphone she easily becomes a force to be reckoned with. When it comes to singing the melody of any song, her precision is right on point. Yes, she sings the melody in her own style but the delivery is there. For the most part, she'll sing a cover tune better than the original.
There's a natural rapport between her and the crowd that's genuine. It's very obvious to me (and everyone else in attendance) that she's in her natural environment by the way she smiles. I love seeing artists with that unapologetic joyful smile after every song during a show. I see that as an indication that they're enjoying themselves doing what they love the most. There's no flash or over the top performances during a Palmerola show. You get to hear and see her natural talent as a singer.
She's not an over-powering singer, in fact when you do hear her sing, she has a lyrical voice to her as oppose to having a percussive voice. The delivery of the song is there with confidence, the notes she sings are dead center and overall she's a joy to listen to live. Back in 2013 she came out with a six-song EP called "Chapter One". The EP is a Pop/Dance-oriented project that is very catchy and my favorite song from it is "Take Me". At the time of this blogpost, there is no timetable as to a new album from Palmerola.
Palmerola is active on social media so be sure to follow her and you can see all of her photographs by visiting her gallery page. For next week's Artist Of The Week, it can be summed up in one word: soul.
