It has been several months since my last blogpost so I'm starting it up again and my goal is to make it a weekly thing. So I'm looking to doing new things on the blog and this is one of them.
I'm adding an "Artist of The Week" to the blog and my first artist is singer/songwriter Brendan O'Hara. I first photographed O'Hara last year at Bodega Taqueria and Tequila, six months after moving to Miami from Los Angeles. I was turned on to Bodega's from Liza Quin, an amazing singer/songwriter who I'll rave about in another blogpost, and she recommended this place to me. I needed to build up my client base and portfolio so I went to photograph his gig.
I walked right up to him as he was setting up, asked if I could photograph his gig and he agreed. On that particular day his opening act was Carly Jo Jackson, again another singer/songwriter I'll brag about later, so I had plenty of work for that evening. I was blown away by O'Hara's set for his musical arrangements and instrumentation. He is literally a one-man band with the notable exception of Keith Cooper, his trusty saxophonist. But on that day O'Hara's set up consisted of keyboards, acoustic guitar and a bass drum. Depending on the gig, it's only him and other times there could be as many as four musicians on stage.
O'Hara has a total of five albums to his credit, just visit his website, www.brendanohara.org, for details. His music has soul and that clearly comes across as he sings in his rich tenor voice. You can see his passion for music when he performs as well as hearing it live. Out of the handful of times I've photographed him, there's been one common denominator: the ladies.
When attending an O'Hara show, expect to see a lot women whose eyes are locked in on him. They approach him with HUGE smiles as they communicate their appreciation for his music. You can't blame them for going bonkers over the man. I mean he stands over 6-feet tall, has a beard and is an overall good looking guy.
But it's all about the music for O'Hara. It's what makes his world go round. Definitely see his show and get ready for an amazing show.
