My pick for Artist of The Week is a special one considering that she was the first artist I photographed five months after moving from Los Angeles. Liza Quin is an accomplished singer/songwriter and her passion has taken her all over the world. She's worked with artists such as Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin and JenCarlos Canela, just to name a few. You can connect with her via social media as well as viewing her images by clicking her gallery page here.
If there's one word to describe "The Mighty Quin" it is power. When she's behind a microphone, whether singing background or lead, she doesn't hold back because she's giving 1000% of herself in that performance. She's a professional through and through and in a sense she's a chameleon. She can belt out a ballad better than any singer out there today, then start rapping on the next song and finally crushing a rock tune the next. The times that I have photographed her, both as a solo artist and as one half of the duo Liza and Robbie, I've been in awe with her musical prowess.
As a photographer, she's breathtaking on camera, let's face it the woman is drop dead gorgeous. But Quin's more than just a pretty face. She is very well respected and loved both in and out of the music industry. When interacting with her, she's genuinely a sweet person and very nice to talk to. I first approached Quin in May 2015 on Instagram. She had a post announcing a gig at Bougainvillea's Old Florida Tavern, I sent her a DM about photographing her performance and she happily agreed. From that point forward she has graciously directed me to other artists and musicians to contact and photograph like 30Vice and Robbie Elias to name a few. I love seeing people who are naturally in their element (or natural habitat) and you can see that special smile. Believe me, I have seen and caught that smile on Quin numerous times when she's performing.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say she's in a serious relationship with her musical career. Both her and Elias are working on an EP of original music and I cannot wait for that to go live. I'm looking forward to working with her again and capture more special moments. When you do catch Ms. Quin during a show, you'll be getting your money's worth and then some. Several of my photography heroes have said (during interviews) about building relationships with the intent of producing quality content. So far It has been a joy working with the mega-talented and beautiful Quin.
For next week's "Artist of The Week", it will feature a band.
